I love our Mayor — make that loved our Mayor. I supported and voted for him based on his ideas and liked the fact that he was a political outsider - he came from the Hi-Tech industry. Based primarily on his “zero means zero” (0% tax increase) platform Mr. Larry O’Brien was elected Mayor of Ottawa in November 2006.
Since then our city is facing a 4.9% tax increase; the highest in city history. Now, I read in the newspaper that he wants to hit all taxpayers with a $50 levy to cover additional snow removal costs. This would make the tax increase actually around 7%.
I’m really happy to see that the adages about politicians and liars and death and taxes haven’t changed.
