Urban Legend Comes to Life

Well, I’ve just read something I had only heard about in bar stories and Internet chain letters. Perhaps you’ve heard the story about the thief that gets caught in a ventilation shaft and dies, only to be found weeks later?

Well, in my old home town of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, this has come true. On April 2, 2008 (not April 1st) a man’s decomposing body was found in a ventilation shaft of a Winnipeg bar. Here’s the story in the local newspaper, The Winnipeg Sun.

Grrrrrrrr...

I love our Mayor — make that loved our Mayor. I supported and voted for him based on his ideas and liked the fact that he was a political outsider - he came from the Hi-Tech industry. Based primarily on his “zero means zero” (0% tax increase) platform Mr. Larry O’Brien was elected Mayor of Ottawa in November 2006.

Since then our city is facing a 4.9% tax increase; the highest in city history. Now, I read in the newspaper that he wants to hit all taxpayers with a $50 levy to cover additional snow removal costs. This would make the tax increase actually around 7%.

I’m really happy to see that the adages about politicians and liars and death and taxes haven’t changed.

St. Patty's Day!

Went out yesterday to partake in the St Patty’s celebration; nothing too crazy though. Started at one of Ottawa’s best kept secrets, The Brig pub and ended up at my favourite club, Zaphod Beeblebrox. Had an awesome time at Zaphods, they had a couple of great local bands - opening act Greggy B & the Flats and headliner Jimmy George.

Ahhh, Spring...

Mmmm, beginning to look like and feel like spring is coming. Unfortunately it’s also starting to smell like spring is coming… melting snow exposing funky dog poo

Oh well, bring on summer… sunshine, patios, my backyard and the pool… can’t wait!

(Not quite) Dying from Embarrassment

I’ve started using nasal strips when I go to bed now. Apparently in order to preserve my marital status one of us - me - needed to take some anti-snoring action.

Anyway, I have used these things for about a week and the results, I’ve been told, are favourable. The only problem I have is that, while they are sticky, they can come off during the night - like last night. I woke up this morning and tried to pull the strip off my nose, but it wasn’t there. I looked for it, but as I had slept in and was running late, I gave up my search quickly. So, I followed my daily (rushed) routine of shower, shave, dress and run out the door to get to work.

I had a meeting first thing in the morning and actually arrived in time to attend - with the other 8 people. During the meeting I couldn’t figure out why everyone kept looking at me funny; that is until I went to scratch the side of my neck. Yep, I found the nasal strip.

Fraidy Cat

I was just thinking about the first time a horror movie really scared me as an adult. I believe it was A Nightmare on Elm Street. The idea that you are attacked in your sleep by a sociopathic child killer seeking revenge for his murder scared the snot out of me. Many nights I woke up startled thinking I could see Freddy Krueger in the shadows…. still, not as scary as Zombies.

Do movies or books still scare you?

Second and Last Test

By all accounts I have been successful. This is the verification test….

This is Only a Test

No, really, this post is just a test. Trying to integrate two blogs…. wish me luck.
